Este oto\u00f1o se puede ver en Londres The histories, <\/em>la mayor retrospectiva realizada en Europa sobre la obra del pintor norteamericano Kerry James Marshall<\/a> (Birmingham, Alabama, 1955), artista reconocido internacionalmente que ha hecho de la poblaci\u00f3n negra el centro de su creaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La exposici\u00f3n, formada por m\u00e1s de setenta obras y coincidiendo con su setenta cumplea\u00f1os, se celebra en las salas de una organizaci\u00f3n art\u00edstica que lo admiti\u00f3 en 2022 como uno de sus miembros destacados, la Real Academia de Artes, instituci\u00f3n autorizada en 1768 por el Rey Jorge III a petici\u00f3n de varios artistas brit\u00e1nicos encabezados por Sir William Chambers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No deja de ser rese\u00f1abble que un pintor que ha enfocado parte de su obra en la historia del comercio de esclavos sea acad\u00e9mico de una instituci\u00f3n creada cuando a\u00fan exist\u00eda en Europa este comercio infame que en el Reino Unido, por ejemplo, fue legal hasta el siglo diecinueve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Influencia internacional<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Aunque este sea uno de los temas a los que ha dedicado su trabajo, en concreto el llamado Middle passage, <\/em>es decir el transporte de esclavos entre \u00c1frica y Estados Unidos, su obra abarca muchos m\u00e1s asuntos en los que los protagonistas son siempre personas de raza negra, afroamericanos, retratados en su vida cotidiana y profesional.<\/p>\n\n\n

La exposici\u00f3n se compone fundamentalmente de pinturas, pero tambi\u00e9n se ha incluido en ella una selecci\u00f3n de su actividad como grabador y escultor, as\u00ed como parte de sus dibujos y varias obras in\u00e9ditas hasta la fecha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reverenciado como uno de los pintores de mayor influencia internacional de la actualidad<\/a>, informa la organizaci\u00f3n en una nota, las pinturas de gran tama\u00f1o expuestas se refieren a episodios centrales de la historia de la comunidad negra en Estados Unidos como la lucha por los derechos civiles que protagonizaron en los a\u00f1os sesenta y el movimiento Black power.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Su obra creativa est\u00e1 \u201ccimentada en la historia del arte, la cultura contempor\u00e1nea, el afrofuturismo y la ciencia ficci\u00f3n. El autor llama la atenci\u00f3n sobre la dureza del pasado, celebra la vida presente e imagina un futuro m\u00e1s optimista\u201d, informa la Academia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conversaciones en la peluquer\u00eda<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Marshall est\u00e1 \u201cprofundamente influenciado\u201d por impresionistas europeos como Caillebotte, Manet o Seurat y por la conciencia del vac\u00edo de representaci\u00f3n de la comunidad negra en el arte contempor\u00e1neo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buena parte de su obra son grandes pinturas representando escenas de la vida cotidiana de esta minor\u00eda racial, la m\u00e1s grande del pa\u00eds con cerca de cincuenta millones de habitantes: el almuerzo campestre de una familia, ni\u00f1os jugando en los parques, parejas bailando o conversaciones en la peluquer\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La exposici\u00f3n est\u00e1 organizada por la Real Academia de Artes del Reijno Unido, con sede en Londres, con la colaboraci\u00f3n del Kunsthaus Z\u00fcrich y el Museo de Arte Moderno de Par\u00eds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Est\u00e1 comisariada por el cr\u00edtico e historiador del arte Mark Godfrey, por los responsables art\u00edsticos de la Royal Academy, Adrian Locke y Rose Thompson, y por la investigadora Nikita Sena Quarshie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
